Description
Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Chair, originally designed in 1929 for the German Pavilion at the International Exposition in Barcelona, became a symbol of modernist luxury and precision. With its graceful steel frame and meticulously upholstered leather cushions, the chair blends classical form with industrial materials, embodying Mies's “less is more” philosophy. Though European in origin, the Barcelona Chair was embraced in mid-century America as a hallmark of modern elegance, finding its place in influential interiors and corporate spaces. Its enduring presence in the American mid-century furniture canon speaks to its seamless integration of form, function, and timeless style.
Our 2 chairs have the classic X shaped stainless steel frame and off white or cream-colored upholstery. One of the chairs has the identifying Knoll labels underneath as well as the Knoll logo fabric. Highly likely that the second chair which matches well, was ordered to go with the original Knoll chair and the Ottomans ordered at the same time. This color in the chair is appealing and desirable.
