Born with a natural inclination towards art, Humphriss displayed exceptional talent in his early years, particularly in the field of sculpture. His passion for creating three-dimensional forms from various materials set the stage for a remarkable career in the world of art.
Humphriss received formal training in sculpture at a prestigious art academy, where he honed his skills and developed a unique artistic style. Although Humphriss made his home in on the East Coast, the inspiration for his sculptures clearly drew from the American West, sparked by numerous journeys from New York to the western frontier. Between 1905 and the end of his life, Humphriss focused on creating works that captured the spirit and life of the "Old West."

Our sculpture was cast by the Roman Bronze Works of New York, one of the leading foundries at the time and has an exceptional patina that distinguishes it from other casts.
