artist

Setti was an Italian engraver of the Late Renaissance.

Description

This drawing belongs to a collection of 125 sheets that were previously bound in a volume within a private collection in Turin, as noted by F. Zava Boccazzi in "An Unpublished Album of Drawings by Ercole Setti," published in Master Drawings, VI, 1968, pages 356-363, plates 1-9. The drawings in this group depict market scenes and small trades, each adorned with titles at the top and sequentially numbered. Notably, one of these sheets, titled "Vendor of Horoscopes," is housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
