Peter Lik is an Australian-born fine art landscape photographer, best known for his panoramic images of nature. Born in Melbourne in 1959 to Czech immigrant parents, Lik discovered photography at an early age and taught himself the craft using a Kodak Brownie camera. His passion for landscapes was deeply influenced by the natural beauty of Australia and later, the vast and diverse terrains of the United States where he moved in the 1980s.

Lik’s signature style blends dramatic natural lighting with meticulous composition, often using medium- or large-format cameras and advanced printing techniques to create large-scale, museum-quality prints.

Description

Photographed from beneath the canopy, this image reveals the intricate structure of a fully leafed, mature specimen. The low angle draws attention to the organic architecture, thick, twisting limbs rising from a moss-laden base and branching outward like veins, extending from a powerful core to the finest edge.

While trees are often viewed as vertical forms, Lik intentionally employed a wide-angle lens and low angle to emphasize horizontal spread and presence. The result is a striking sense of scale, where reach becomes as important as height.
