Description
The interplay of color and “drawing” within this abstract painting, and the uniqueness that appears when exploring these intermixing elements was characteristic of the artists exploration. “Drawing”, of course, refers not to pencil to paper, but to the organization of space, shapes, and erasures. With ties to the Color Field tradition, Saito’s color landscapes are a richly infused exhibition of dragged and poured paint, often with bold flecks of color, and animated calligraphic lines. In this piece, Saito’s makes use of the entire canvas by creating a wash that hugs the edges while the application of paint, though sparse, is vigorous
