Overview

JPW3 (J. Patrick Walsh III, b. 1981) is a Los Angeles–based artist whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses painting, sculpture, installation, and performance. A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Southern California, he is recognized for transforming everyday materials—wax, newsprint, popcorn, and automotive parts—into dense, layered compositions that challenge the distinctions between abstraction and object.

JPW3’s work often investigates materiality, texture, and spatial relationships, emphasizing the physicality of his materials as much as their visual impact. Through improvisational processes, his installations and sculptures convey a sense of accumulated time, labor, and gesture, inviting viewers to consider the interplay of chance, control, and transformation in contemporary art.
