Description
Bonestell is fast becoming appreciated for his groundbreaking space illustrations which have been rising recently in the market. This alluring depiction of Taj Mahal also has an almost unearthly feel, depicted as if in a technicolor in a movie. A departure for the artist that makes it also feel very unique. The Taj Mahal is regarded as “The Jewel of Muslim Art” and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983. Bonestell creates a meticulous and accurate painting, perhaps rating as one of Bonestell’s finest paintings. The perspective and precision used to frame the reflection in the water is stunning. Bonestell’s training in architecture enabled him to render accurate perspective and visual angles. In the 1920s, he lived in New York, and helped design some of the iconic Art Deco facades and architectural elements for the Chrysler building, the New York Central Building, and many office and apartment buildings around the city. He also collaborated on the designs for the Plymouth Rock Memorial, the U.S. Supreme Court Building, and various state capitols.
