Internationally renowned sculptor John Raymond Henry produces monumental works for private individuals, museums, as well as public institutions and municipalities in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Working out of his studio in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Henry also produces table top sized sculptures, but he is best known for his large scale public works of art. The son of a construction engineer, Henry creates sculptures that can rise from 60-70 feet in height and are fashioned from industrial materials. A founding member of the artist owned gallery ConStruct, along with such other sculpture luminaries as Mark di Suervo and Charles Ginniver, Henry leverages his nationally recognized expertise to curate museum and gallery exhibitions.

Description

Maciachini Model 2 epitomizes one of John Henry’s spectacular geometric forms that have defined his work over the course of his stellar forty year career. This sculpture constructed of machine aluminum and brilliantly painted red, has its roots in Constructivism, the artistic philosophy that originated in Russia in 1919 and which combined a machine aesthetic with dynamic components celebrating technology. Maciachini Model 2 is composed of strong linear forms that seem to defy gravity, at once floating and then seemingly arrested in time and space.  There is a suggestion of motion that has been frozen. In the end this magnificent sculpture is simply elegant with a certain lightness and immediacy that seems at odds with its sense of monumentality.
