Yvonne Thomas American, 1913-2009

Overview

Yvonne Thomas was one of only 11 women in a field of 72 artists who were included in the artist-led 9th Street Exhibition in 1951, heralding the formal debut of Abstract Expressionism and firmly establishing her as a member of the first-generation of that group. Thomas exhibited regularly at Stable Gallery on New York’s 58th Street along-side other luminaries of the Abstract Expressionist movement including Elaine de Kooning, Pearl Fine, Joan Mithcell, Louise Bourgeois.
